#33 Sip on a yummy smoothie from the new Whole Food's store in Encinitas

One of my favorite things to do is to ride my bike from my house to the new Whole Foods on the 101 in downtown Encinitas. They have delicious green smoothies full of kale and berries (sounds gross but tastes incredible).

Just walking down the isles can be a real treat. The produce is mostly organic and locally grown and they have all sorts of sustainable, creative foods to fill your belly.

There is a great seating area where one can enjoy the coastal breezes and a nice lunch!

#30 Gift the gift of a smile!

Have you ever noticed that when you are feeling down if you simply smile you start to feel better? The power of a smile is a wondrous thing. When you smile it reminds others they are not alone and we are all brothers and sisters on this little planet. It may be one of the best gifts to give and receive. Today I will share my smile.

Contentment is the key. If you have contentment without material things, you are truly rich. Without it, even if you are a billionaire, you will not have happiness.

Insight from the Dalai Lama

So practice smiling today!

Good Recent Reads. Here are a few books I have checked out and read recently from the Encinitas library

The Bay of Pigs (Pivotal Moments in American History) by Historian Howard Jones.
I found it very interesting. I learned a lot about military strategy and decision making (it was scary and informative at the same time). These folks we vote into office are not infallible.

Here are a few more reviews. It was definitely worth reading.

"The Bay of Pigs, based on deep research, is a hard-hitting history of the Cold War mentality that led American leaders not only to back a badly flawed invasion but also to plot all manner of attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro and others in his circle."--James T. Patterson, author of Restless Giant: The United States from Watergate to Bush v. Gore

"An unsparing portrait of an epic disaster, a tale of overreach, incompetence, hubris and self-delusion, of every level of American government at its worst. The Bay of Pigs had far-reaching consequences, and from Howard Jones' account it becomes clear why."--James Galbraith, The University of Texas at Austin

"This is the definitive history of John F. Kennedy's greatest policy calamity. More thoroughly researched than any previous work on the subject, it is also succinct, nuanced, and exquisitely balanced in its treatment of the president and the CIA."--Brian Latell, author of After Fidel: Raul Castro and the Future of Cuba's Revolution, and Senior Research Associate, Cuba Studies, University of Miami

"Howard Jones has written a page-turner, beginning the moment he describes Fidel Castro's planes roaring out of Havana and heading toward the helpless Cuban exile brigade on Red Beach. He also shows conclusively how the invasion-poorly planned, driven by self-deception and inertia-solidified Castro's rule, destroyed U.S.-Cuban relations, and reinforced the American government's paranoia that any criticism of its foreign policy constituted a threat to nation security."--Stephen Schwab, retired CIA official currently teaching at the University of Alabama

Amazing Read! If you love to run or just love life this is a page turner. I could not put it down. This book inspired me in so many ways. Even if you are not a runner you will be a richer person for having read this book.

Born to Run. A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
by Christopher McDougall

Truth is beauty
Beauty is truth
This is all we really know in life
And all we need to know.
May the Raramuri and all of us
continue to run free.

Keats y Caballo Blanco

An epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians of have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner, Chris McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to a climactic race in the Copper Canyons that pits America's best ultra-runners against the tribe. McDougal's incredible story will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that you, indeed all of us, were born to run. From the Trade Paperback edition

After the show feast on delicious Mexican food at Las Olas! This spot is a locals favorite that has been around for 30 years. You can smell the salty ocean air when you get out of your car (it is across the street from Seaside beach). The veggie taco's are my favorite but they have a great menu with fresh, tasty food!
