There are many hidden trails in and around Encinitas. Here are a few of my favorites.
The San Elijo Lagoon has a great trail run that starts on Manchester avenue across the street and slightly West of the Encinitas Mira Costa College campus. Be aware you can park in the lot on weekends without a permit but you may get ticketed if you park on Campus without a permit on weekdays. The best spot to park seems to be at the gas station slightly East of the I-5 on the street. There is a great 3 mile loop if you take the trail heading East towards Encinitas. If you want a longer run its about 3.5 to 4 miles to the beach and back if you head West. You can loop the 2 sections together for a 6 to 8 mile run and there are some pretty steep hills to add if you need a hill work out.

Other awesome runs in the area are the Quail Gardens trail runs, Torrey Pines, Los Penasquitos and Lake Hodges. There are many great trail runs in and around San Diego! We are very lucky! I am no expert but here are a few running tips that have helped keep me motivated.
1. Get some running partners. They help motivate you to get out of bed on cold mornings. I have some amazing running partners who inspire me in so many ways!
2. Get good shoes. I love the store "Movin Shoes" in Encinitas because they help fit the best shoes for your gait and foot.

3. Read the amazing book called "Born to Run" by Christopher Mcdougall, It is one of the most interesting books I have read. It is about life not just running. I had a hard time putting it down.

6. Sign up for a Run: this helps to motivate me to keep running. You can start small with a 5K or 10K. Here are a few websites with local trail races.
7. Get out there and have fun!!!http: Here are some upcoming races in and around Encinitas.
